The Clumsy Enchanter

In a Nutshell

A wizard who is terrible at combat magic invents a spell that brings joy to the world.

In the grand Academy of Sorcery, Wizard Fiddlewick was considered a failure. Whenever he tried to cast a fireball, it turned into a shower of sparks. When he attempted an invisibility spell, he only managed to turn his robes neon pink.

While the other wizards practiced destructive battle spells, preparing for the upcoming tournament, Fiddlewick sat in his small room, mixing odd ingredients. He didn’t want to hurt anyone; he just wanted to make people smile.

On the day of the tournament, a rogue troll attacked the arena. The powerful combat wizards hurled fire and lightning, but the troll simply absorbed the magic and grew angrier. In desperation, Fiddlewick stepped forward and cast his newest, untested spell: The Giggle Hex.

A burst of ticklish, golden light hit the troll. The monster stopped roaring and looked confused. Then, it let out a snort, followed by a chuckle, and finally, a booming, ground-shaking belly laugh. The troll laughed so hard it rolled onto the ground, entirely incapacitated. The audience cheered. From that day on, Fiddlewick taught a new class at the Academy: The Magic of Joy.
