The Thirsty Crow’s Ingenuity

In a Nutshell

A clever crow finds a way to drink water from a tall pitcher on a scorching day.

It was the hottest summer the forest had seen in a hundred years. Lakes had dried up, and streams were nothing but dust. A crow, exhausted and desperate for water, flew over a deserted village in search of a drink.

Just as he was about to give up, he spotted a tall clay pitcher sitting on a stone wall. He flew down eagerly and peered inside. There was water at the bottom! But the pitcher’s neck was narrow, and the water level was too low. No matter how hard he stretched, his beak couldn’t reach the refreshing liquid.

Frustrated, the crow almost flew away to accept his fate. But then, he noticed the ground around the wall was covered in small pebbles. An idea sparked in his clever mind.

He picked up a pebble in his beak and dropped it into the pitcher. Plop. He picked up another, and another. With each pebble he dropped, the water level rose slightly. He worked tirelessly under the blazing sun, dropping dozens of pebbles into the pitcher. Slowly but surely, the water rose to the brim. The crow drank deeply, his cleverness having saved his life.
